The seminars were heating up at the same time as the car show, and we made a point of attending John Sawruk's presentation in the afternoon. The hot topic of course was the GTO from Down Under, and John shared the majority of the pitch he made to Pontiac's engineers concerning the new millennium tiger. With the demise of the Firebird, Pontiac is in desperate need of a high profile performance car to attract buyers, and a GTO - done right - is just the ticket. He stressed the history of Pontiac performance in general and the GTO specifically and even included a snapshot of the (thankfully) axed 1975 GTO. If the project goes as planned the latest incarnation should be the best performing GTO ever made. Hard to argue with that.
