The excruciating part, though, is the list of compromises that have to be made to at least stay within sight of the budget that was set too high to begin with. The garage shrank, amenities were jettisoned, the basement would be left unfinished, exotic flooring discarded. Basically we tried to stick with doing those things that would be difficult if not impossible to do after the house was built. We did leave in some fun electronics once I was able to bundle our existing television and entertainment center into the contract for the house we're selling. Things will be tight for the next few years, but we're hoping we will be in a position where we won't feel like we ever have to move again.
You'd think the plans would be concrete by now
