Speaking of the garage, we decided early on we'd like to have a side entry, so even if the house was an afterthought it wouldn't look like an afterthought. Initially the dimensions were huge, but when our aspirations were brought down to earth the garage size came with them. In the end it was a 22' by 46' rectangle split in two - each side with a 16' overhead door. I really wanted to have four single car doors, but that was another idea axed by the beancounters (I had to work that word into the story). The left side is for the "drivers", the right side for the "keepers". The whole thing is insulated including the doors. In addition, the right side will have four overhead fluorescent fixtures, a data jack, extra outlets, and in-wall speakers wired to the home stereo.
