Notice the huge amount of material missing in the oil ring groove of the TRW/stock type piston on the left. (top pic) Does taking away half the metal supporting the piston crown (left pic)weaken the piston any? (right pic) notice the reinforcing ribs on the cut-away KB piston. At the bottom is evidence that TRW's aren't all that great at resisting detonation damage. Chamber pressure was venting straight out through the "oil groove". |
